Hello, I'm new to widelands, I've just downloaded version bzr6740 (windows) and installed it successfully. I use language FR All game tutorial text seams not using the right charset : every accent chars (like "é") are replaced by crappy chars (like "^@"), that make reading very disturbing (almost impossible). I tried to look at settings, but I was not able to get correct text. what can I do ? I would like to play with my children, but they are not able to read text as it is. any help please. Thank you, regards. Top Quote |

This is the first time I hear about this problem. Could you open a bug report and provide some screenshots and details about your operating system? The bug tracker is here https://bugs.launchpad.net/widelands. Top Quote |

This from the current dev version on mac os x: So there it seems to work. I am currently unable to explain what the issue might be - seems to be a Windows only thing, maybe even a Windows XP only thing. einstein13, could you try french as well in b17 and send a screenshot in? hpfx, a screenshot would help from you too. I can't reproduce this with recent trunk builds on Win7 and WinXP. But i will try again with b17 when i am home again (~ wednesday...). What happens when you select a different font in the options? And i strongly advice to switch to a newer windows version: XP will reach EOL in April 2014! Top Quote |

Hi, einstein13, the screenshot you made show wrong char, on first line, 2nd sentence : "Je pose vÀ ritablement" should be "Je pose véritablement" you see what I mean. The "é" is replaced by a "'À "(with a space) that make the word unreadable. I have same issue, I'm on WinXP. Regards. Top Quote |

This is super important! I assume that the problem is with all message boxes in scenarios, right? Could you check for example the first barbarian mission. ? And I assume that i.e. messages send to you ingame (in the news window, i.e. mails) are properly translated. Please verify these too statements. If this is correct than something super weird seems to happen - strings that are translated from Lua (i.e. scripting in scenarios) seem to return wrong encodings in the translated strings (we expect UTF-8, but it seems to be something else). I found this stackoverflow answer http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3398113/php-gettext-problems which could match our situation. What I do not understand is why it work on non Windows XP systems. Could a Windows developer sprinckle bind_textdomain_codeset all over the gettext code in Widelands and see if this changes anything? Top Quote |
