Do dropsites (flags) have a maximum ?

Yes, a flag can only hold 8 wares. A worker who tries to drop of a ware at a flag that already has 8 wares is blocked until a ware is removed from the flag by a different carrier.

Yeah they do the moonwalk when there's no room. : )

Thanks !

But I don't understand the causes and effects of traffic jams...

Wares accumulating at a flag because they come quicker than they're taken away, I can understand.

But why do the workers stop moving entirely ?

Also, I don't understand warehouses either.

In Pharaoh/Cesar III, warehouses had carriers who would go fetch the wares you wanted at that location, and also the wares had to be put in warehouses, so it was quite easy to understand.

But here, don't all flags work as dropsites ? What's special with the warehouse ?

BTW you didn't answer my question about flags having or not a limited capacity...

And in the warehouse panel you can choose which ware to stock there, but there's no granularity, so I don't understand what happens if I put "preferred ware" on two warehouses for the same item.

Where should they go with a ware if all flags are full of wares? A carrier has to wait until he can drop a ware at a flag.

Sure, he answered:

If two warehouses prefer a ware, the ware get evenly delivered between those warehouses.

Oh, thanks ! I didn't see Nordfriese's answer.

Now it makes more sense.

Is there a way to see how many wares there are at a flag ?

Not directly, only by zooming in and counting the (admittedly small) ware icons lying on the flag. The best clue that a flag is full is usually that a carrier is walking towards that flag and unable to reach it.

The minimap also has a traffic overlay that shows flags with many wares highlighted in red.

Oh that's new to me. I must remember to use that although I guess one can see it easily enough on the main screen. Good though for a huge map where you wouldn't want to have to scan all the roads regularly. Cool.

I don't see this traffic overlay ?

Also, I've build a few warehouses now that I understand how they work but I still have traffic jams in front of them ?

And another traffic jam in front of my headquarter ?

How is that possible ?

Oh that's normal. The only remedy I've read is to always have 5 roads leading in all directions from the HQ and every WH so that there is maximum capacity for the flow of goods in and out of these hubs. Oh and of course make dead sure to have the extra carriers (horses, oxen, tapirs, donkeys, etc.) available in sufficient numbers.

It's the 6th layer of the minimap as shown in the attached screenshot.

This feature is new in Widelands v1.2 so in case you're using an older version it is not present there yet.
