Hi,

I was playing version bzr5445 on Windows XP in a multiplayer game. I used the tribe Barbarian. I built a scout. In his hut there were two rations. Yet the message when moving the cursor was something like (out of the top of my head): 'no work, missing rations'. Has anyone some hints how to use the scout?

Regards, Marvin.

I noticed the same with the Atlanteans. The Scout's productivity is always 0%, and there's the same message about missing rations. But when I click on him, it seems that he's fully supplied with rations. Also, I never noticed any carriers bringing new rations to the scout's hut, it just seems as if he wouldn't work at all.

So maybe it's a bug. Which version of widelands are you using?

I'm on 32 bit Linux, using build 15.

Update: I did some testing, setting up something very basic, just to make sure that the scout is supplied with food. He left his house once and made a trip to the surroundings, but then again, nothing. I then built a second scout's house by the border on the opposite side of my territory, and this one actually worked! Perhaps you must not expand beyond his house too fast?!

When playing, I always keep an eye on the food stuff in stock, to avoid shortages in advance when possible. There's always an overproduction, but still the I get the message that the scout is short of rations. Marvin, have you tried to set highest priority for the scout's food supply? Still, that doesn't explain why one scout is working, while the other one seems to be on strike.

I built the scout's hut close to the border. But maybe I built a fortress then at that same border, not sure about that though. No I didn't try setting the ration supply to highest priority. Actually the two slot in the hut for rations were filled with two rations. So that didn't seem to be the problem. On a second thought: Although the scout's hut had its two rations it can hold, overall the economy was short on rations. So maybe the scout has a 'shortage check' and saves on his rations when he must fear they will not be re-filled?

Marvin.

It is something like a bug:

You have to place the scouts hut near to some black area. If you have buildings with a high vision range near your scout it will fail to find something to explore.

Okay, thanks, in my case it was a woodcutter venturing beyond the borders and uncovering parts of the black area. Seems somewhat tricky to use scouts properly, though.

Hi - I'm also seeing this problem with the latest stable release from downloads page. Scouts don't seem to want to travel very far to explore undiscovered land. face-sad.png

Build 16 will make the scout much more useful.

Hi

Me and my brother have recently downloaded WL build 16 and have played a few games LAN against computers. I've noticed that (as Empire) the scouts seem to "explore" pre-explored areas. I had built a few Scout Huts on edges of my territory but only sometimes would they move toward unexplored areas and they seemed to enjoy strolling around my own territory and eating my rations.

Is this a bug? Or is there a way to make the scouts move in a certain direction or always explore new areas that i havn't noticed?
