Hello, I have a question about mining. I play atlanteans on a 64 bit Widelands-bzr5301 installation from timowi's PPA on Ubuntu 10.04 .

I am unsure about burning down a mine or letting it produce, because the stream of bread and smoked fish isn't stopping and it seems that the miners continue to eat. The label says "produced 2 iron" for instance, though the productivity of the mine is at zero percent and i cannot find any iron to be transported to a smelter (The smelter's productivity is at zero percent, too). Also, geologists find no resources around the mine anymore.

So, when the resources around a mine run short until there is nothing left to take out of the mountain, will the game give me a hint about that and stop delivering food?

You are seeing the hint: Productivity very low, but continuing stream of resources inside.

There's a small chance that an 'empty' mine still produces something, so if you can afford the ressources, you might want to let them keep producing their very expensive coal or iron, or not.

I find this part confusing as well. If we want to make the game easier for beginners, this is certainly a place to start.

Maybe it is confusing at the first moment, but the idea of that there is a small chance for another gold or iron ore or coal or gem and so on to be revealed is a good one, I think. Maybe the game could give the player a message in the messages inbox about the probably sinking productivity of a mine or that the resources in the catchment area of a building are now empty?

I agree that the problem lies more in the misleading message that is sent to the player. The fact that mines can potentially produce forever (just very inefficiently) is a good thing.
