Hello,

in my LinuxMint 19 Installation in VirtualBox and VMware Player the program 'widelands' don't start.

In VirtualBox:

VM-linuxmint:~$ widelands This is Widelands Version build-19 (Release) Set home directory: /home/opa/.widelands There's no configuration file, using default values. Adding directory: /usr/share/games/widelands/data selected language: (system language) using locale de_DE.UTF-8 Graphics: Try to set Videomode 800x600 Speicherzugriffsfehler

and in VMwarePlayer:

VM-linuxmint:~$ widelands This is Widelands Version build-19 (Release) Set home directory: /home/opa/.widelands There's no configuration file, using default values. Adding directory: /usr/share/games/widelands/data selected language: (system language) using locale de_DE.UTF-8 Graphics: Try to set Videomode 800x600 glewInit returns 1 Your OpenGL installation must be very broken. Missing GL version

Caught exception (of type '10WException') in outermost handler! The exception said: [/build/widelands-kbRSHc/widelands-19+repack/src/graphic/gl/initialize.cc:90] glewInit returns 1: Broken OpenGL installation.

This should not happen. Please file a bug report on version build-19(Release). and remember to specify your operating system.

with regards Ch. Hanisch

Hi Hanisch and welcome to the Forum face-smile.png

Widelands can't find an OpenGL environment. I am not an expert for VirtualBox, so i am not sure if widelands starts in a VirtualBox. Which graphics card is used? And which driver?

If you have installed the package mesa-utils (or mesa-demos), can you try running glxgears from console/terminal? If glxgears shows some turning gear wheels, please run glxinfo and compare at least the following rows:

[...]
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 18.1.5
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
[...]

The strings shown above are from my maschine.

As I remember installing Widelands on my Virtual Machine (VM ware player) it was without any problem. Have you installed standard VM Player drivers? Also - as you are using VM - have you consider using another Linux environment? I used Ubuntu. But probably Mint is also OK for VM Player.
