If there are only big maps with big building ground in the tournament I will participate.

I won't participate if there are small maps or difficult maps with few building ground.

King_of_nowhere is asking about our ideas for maps. If you have any idea how to provide good games, it is better to say them rather to reject all the idea at once.

Not every small map is bad. I can remember that there are very small maps, perfect for great game. The fight is quite short, but also very good. I never run out of space there.

Well, whatever everybody will say there, I can already assure you that there will be a bit of everything. So in case you don't participate if there are "X", you can skip participating right now. If you don't participate in there are "mostly X", then you should be fine. Whatever "X" is. I try for variety: everyone has different tastes and I certainly cannot fully please anyone.

That's because I said make a final voting in the announcement thread final once more so everybody can vote then who didn't read.

no, that's not the way to go. suppose 19 people participate, and 10 say they don't want small maps, and 9 say they want small maps. what should i do? put no small maps because the majority didn't want them? there's a difference between democracy and dictatorship by majority. If a vast majority of players say they want or don't want a specific feature, i will put or not put it, but otherwise, I try to get a bit of everything soo that everyone will have something they like.

In the case of fjords, for every player who disliked the map, another one praised it. actually, opinions look surprisingly polarized; i have never seen such strong opinions for any other map. that can be expected, i guess, from such a peculiar map. when there is something very particular, you generally love it or hate it.

anyway, there will be a couple of small maps, but they can be something like crater or glacier lake. whether fjords is one of them is something i can actually make a vote over. Hey, now that I think about it, it could be a good experiment: while the type of map is fixed (small, large, nonconventional win condition), i could offer at every turn a choice of maps and everyone could cast a vote. For example; in this turn, we will play a small map. We can do crater, glacier lake, fjords. cast your vote.

then again, this way only maps liked by the majority would be played. maybe i should simply go for different maps than what was used before.

Finally you explain me your opinion. That is what I want to read about my suggestion to make a final voting in the announcement thread - of course you can discuss before - I only want that ecerybody can read at time. I wrote it in my posting first.

But if somebody don't want to understand me make what you want.

It was only a suggestion... What do you want to say about dictatorship... Sorry very misunderstanding...

Generally speaking there are some hard decisions in every design - be it code or tournament. The implementor of either will have to make these choices and they will never be perfect for everybody. But we are a do-ocraty - if somebody does not agree with the choices, they are free to implement their own ideas: for example by running the next tournament and implement what they think is most important.

I would suggest to use Ice Wars for territorial time. In that case, north east should play versus south west. If it will be 1vs1, red should play versus dark grey. (Because at any map, the blue position might be an advantage - it's the position number one and statisticly, you play this position in most cases) Maps can only be really symmetric if the line from north north west to south south east is like a mirror, because the flags of buildings point only to the south south east ... And if north east plays against south west, the map is really symmetric, if you neglect a rotation of 15°.

The Nile lacks this detail for symmetry, but that seems to be normal in Widelands. Nevertheless it's an (almost symmetrical and) great map and would be fantastic for a collectors match, or any other match, except for wood gnome and territorial lord (by my opinion)... Just avoid the bug which lets the map crash (https://wl.widelands.org/forum/topic/2820/)
