Ok good news! The game is on twitch. It only needs some avatar to it. Some elder dev could ask twitch for the rights to modify the widelands profil game.

Here is the link: https://help.twitch.tv/customer/en/portal/articles/2348988-adding-a-game-and-box-art-to-the-directory

I don't know who's gonna stream some widelands, though. So not urgent.

What kept me from doing it so far is that I'd need to create yet another account (imgur.com). Does anybody already have an account with them?

I can host it if you want! Did you already have an image or do I make one?

How about this one? Yes, it would look better as a png, but that's not allowed.

Thanks!

I made a mistake though: The screenshot needs to be 600px x 800px, not 800px x 600px. None of our screenshots are high enough for that, and my screens are all too small to produce one.

Maybe we can scale down one of the tribes pictures? https://wl.widelands.org/wiki/Artwork/

I already saw those, but I just could make my mind on which tribe to choose face-tongue.png

The picture doesn't need to be perfectly fitted for that. Even a high level of pixelisation isn't that bad. Most people will only see this as a very small icon anyway. Can't I just use the same image and crop and resize it?

It's an explicit specification by them, so I don't think that we will get away with that. The original screenshot is:

https://wl.widelands.org/wlmedia/wlscreens/screens/Current%20Developments/To%20the%20sea.png

It is even high enough as such, but it's impossible to crop without having a bit of the menu no the bottom, so that doesn't look good.

If there is a savegame of this wonderful setup, then surely somebody a huge screen can provide a higher-resolution original?

Is it possible to change the icon later ? Slight upscaling would fix it. Increasing the resolution to, say 112.5% of the original and then picking the upper right corner would give reasonably-okay image for now. That would fix the problem of Vassili's, until somebody updates the picture.

Another solution would be to include the tool bar entirely into the cropped image. It looks okay to me, if centered horizontally.

Actually, since we have an isometric map view, we could assemble an image from multiple screenshots of a paused game. We do need a nice-looking savegame though.
