7 is definitely the best so far, the colors and shadows are nice and crisp face-smile.png

You need to shift the L upwards a tiny bit though, there's a green edge from the W visible at its top.

Sorry, I meant 8. Got my numbers confused face-tongue.png

The green in #9 (the one with the W and L touching, did you confuse the image numbers?) is a different story, since it's from an angle. Not really fond of it though, to visually noisy around the top of the L.

My favourite so far is https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/drjn54ds3t2rll7/WL-ico-3D.010.png, or #8.

You mean I'm not the only one? face-smile.png

My favourite so far is https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/drjn54ds3t2rll7/WL-ico-3D.010.png, or #8.

To help comparisons, I will repeat what I surmise are the front runners (10 is in essence 6 with the shadow plane behind it.)

Numbers are below and to the left of their respective image:

8 8
10 10 Click this link to see logo 10 with a light background.

In 11, I have tweaked 8 a little to remove the green peeking above the top of the L and rearrange shadow angles.

11 11 Click this link to see logo 11 with a light background.

Comments please.

Edited to add image 11.

Seems like it face-grin.png

Seeing them next to each other, I like the shininess of the original. Can we get some of that?

11 it is for me - all the 3d angles are not beating the simple WL. I like the colors, but they seem very dark compared to the old logo. I think that needs a little more tweaking.

Amazing how much can be done/written about two letters :). Then again, the logo is super important.

I agree.

Yes it is. It is the graphic calling card of Widelands to the world and worth every minute and word invested in it.

We'll try a little shininess, too, Gun. face-smile.png

11 mostly looks good, but the upper-left corner of the W looks odd. I'd either shrink the hole or add a bit of shadowing so the part around the hole doesn't look completely fused together.

Or both.

Thanks for your comment. I'll see what I can do with that.

Meanwhile, here is my latest crop:

11: 11 original: old 13: 13 14: 14 15: 15

Click for white background old 13 14 15

Taking cautious steps progressing from one to the next, in 13, I gave the L material a reddish cast similar to the original. In 14, I added a spot lamp to provide subtle highlighting to the upper half of the logo. In 15 I increased the specularity (shininess) of the W material. Of course, size ease the easiest to adjust.

I'm going to work on 15 in response to DragonAtma's observation

Mybe I'm the only one who likes the number 10? face-smile.png (maybe the angle should be a bit smaller?) But I really don't know what else should be with colors (as now?, a bit lighter?, shiny?).
