Why map uploader isn't accepting my map? Is there something wrong with the uploader? I made an improved version of my recent Australia.wmf, which would be a candidate in the contest.

The contest title Over the Sea sounds like there should be land masses connected via sea only. How does that work in practice? If I spread over my entire continent and then start exploring, and my opponent does the same equally fast, are we in a deadlock? After a quick look, conquering empty land over sea can now be done but invasions not. Is it so, or have I just failed to find an amphibious assault button?

Any hints on how to make a map where ships are not playing the second fiddle, while maintaining a possibility to win a game?

deadlocks are very well possible. There is no way of doing military with ships as of yet, so yes, if you only have one port on each island and your opponent has conquered all on one island, you will never be able to get to him.

What is the error you see? You might need to rename your map to Australia1.wmf. Do not worry about clobbering up the maps section, we can manually clean out the ones that should not stay around later.

Is there a limit on the number of players? Can it be a scenario map or must it be an ordinary map?

CMake is evil.

Scenario maps are very welcome - single player as well as multiplayer. But to answer your question: there is no restriction on the type of map, nor on the number of players or the world type. Only important thing is: Try to make the map brilliant face-smile.png

SirVer already answered the question basically. However as I wrote in my previous post: there is no restriction on the type of map. Of course it would be preferable to create a 100% winable map - anyways, keep in mind that there are different win conditions like land lord.

So, yes it is not easy to create a seafaring map, where everything can be reached via land but ships still do not "play the second fiddle" - but if it was easy, there was no reason for a map contest face-smile.png

Just two ideas: If it is hard to get to some parts of the map because of land-bottle-necks, or if some specific things are missing on the starting positions and they are available far away from all the starting positions, but can be reached by ship quite fast... in that case things might already look different

And again.. it's as well hard to create a map, where you can not reach ever piece of land via land but still the game is definitively winable for all players - one way is to create a special win-condition via scripting.

... and if the map is build up of islands and there are ways that nobody wins the game... well at least that's something that pushes us developers to implement the "clean space on opposing players island to build your own harbour" feature as soon as possible so we can include it in Build19/1.0 face-smile.png

jepp it seems like that. I opened a bug report on https://bugs.launchpad.net/widelands-website/+bug/1202301

I hope there will be an easy fix - if not: no fear, there will be other ways to submit the maps face-smile.png
