After seeing the latest news about the new widelands build 20 I thought I should post my work on the (wheat) field building to get it upstream.

Imgur

The stages small to harvested have a small idle animation of 5 frames included.

I have uploaded the original blend files as well as prepared pngs and init.lua files on OpenGameArt.org: https://opengameart.org/content/wheat-field

Well... What's the point of all these redesigns at all? I like the way how the wheat fields look on the left side in the picture. Your design looks very similar to the barley fields, doesn't it? Barley gives two wares per field, wheat only gives one.

Probably this is just a matter of taste.

The point is to have 3D models from which images can be rendered at any resolution and a consistency in style and perspective. If there are design points you dislike they can be changed.

I like it face-smile.png

Maybe just remove the surrounding stones and make the wheat a bit smaller in height?

Yes, stones are not supposed to be there. They are too high-tech for Barbarians face-grin.png .

Then we can see if the colours of wheat can be a bit brighter? Now they reminds me Atlanteans blackroot.

Except that, I am very happy that you want to improve graphics! face-smile.png

Definitely!

I'd also like to see a redesign of the cornfield, the saturation on it is too glaring, and it is also so big that it overlaps and creates z-layer issues.

Having Blender files is important, because I am working on implementing mipmaps and spritesheets, we'll have to rerender all the graphics when that's done in order to get a higher resolution for the zoom-in.

Maybe they could be 3D models which look more or less exactly like the old 2D models?

But rotation is a good idea, even in the case that only 120°-rotations are possible.

I think they should be shorter. as it is, the stalks are as high as the whole farm. I know not everything in widelands is to scale, but there is at least some consistency.

I have incorporated your feedback into the next version of the field and hope you like it:

The old version is on the right for comparison.
