While I was playing Widelands again I noticed that the field selector is not good to see in some situations and so I put together a new one in Blender. Here is the result:

New:

Old:

As a byproduct the field selector can now be rendered for any desired resolution. Enjoy! :-)

Looks good face-smile.png

Where can one find it?

Maybe you can also make some suggestions for the special pointers in the Editor? There is a pointer missing for "Set Origin" and the one for placing Immovables should be modified, imho.

It is definitely easier to see, well done face-smile.png

The old one had a bit of a 3D feel to it and this one looks flat, I don't know if that can be modelled easily while keeping the dark edge clear?

Those are a great improvement! Your second field selector is spot on.

I find the info icon a bit hard to read on Summer water, maybe add some white to the color?

I'd also love to have a replacement for the cursor hand, since it's a bit pixely.

Field selectors so far...

Is on my to-do list.

Yeah I can remember the discussion about "chopped off hands"... Are there any wishes regarding the cursor? Like no hand, etc.

I think a hand is fine. Or maybe a crown?

We also have an open branch for adding a roadbuilding cursor. Those graphics also need cleaning up - do you want the branch merged so that you can work on it more easily? We could add the current state of your icons to it too - can you attach a zip to the bug?

And I have been annoyed at the road building icons for a long time now - maybe the same base image could be used for both the new cursor and the icons? The icon in the tab could have a combination of flag and road on it.

Annoying icons

On that note: Do the GUI elements have a specific
image size or are they scalable, too? I'm talking
about the image resolution, not the GUI scale in-
game

No, GUI elements are not scalable.

The 0only exception is that if you have an image in a table row (e.g,. messages window or campaign select), those will be downscaled automatically to fit the table row. This does not work with elements that use a listselect or dropdown menu though (e.g. Tribal Encyclopedia, Multiplayer game setup). You can recognize those by tables having headers and listselects not having a header.

First a new comparison image of the current state of the field selectors:

I have added the current state of the field selectors in a ZIP file to the bug report.

I will work on the cursors and icons once I have finished the field selectors. face-wink.png

And to sum up which stuff needs a touch up/replacement:

Cursors:

  • Default (Hand)
  • Road Building

Icons:

  • Road Building
