Hello, as you know i sometimes stream Widelands on Twitch.

At the beginning, i was writing "Widelands" for the game title, because he was not listed by Twitch.

After months of streaming Widelands, Twitch still refuse to list it.

Today i will stream some Widelands, so like before, i will put "Widelands" for game title.... exept now Twitch refuse it with a red box alert who say "please choose a supported game".

Another way to say it's now forbidden to stream games who is not listed in their stupid database, twitch is no more a streaming platform of games, it's reserved only for Blizzard, EA, and Steam...

According to this Twitch help article they use giant bomb as source of truth what a video game is. Giant bomb has an entry for Wesnoth, so they appear to accept FOSS titles. They do not seem to have an entry for Widelands. It seems to be a wiki, so it would be very cool if you could add it there - and then Widelands should be supported on Twitch again.

According to this reply, that was not completly true 2 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/269wip/how_do_i_stream_a_game_that_is_not_found_on_the/ (replies of wolfstar76 and DeezjaVu)

Adding the game to Giant bomb database, can work or not, in both cases that doesn't change Twitch have decide to censor alot of games without knowing them.

EDIT: i see we must have a giant bomb account for add a game entry, or a FB/google one, can you please, someone of the core developpers of the game, add an entry to giant bomb?

Yes, the answer I linked in my reply was updated in April 2016, so it seems to be a new thing.

Twitch have decide to censor alot of games without knowing them.

I feel that you are quite upset about this. I personally do not see censoring here - Twitch wanted to ban non-gaming streams. They have for a while. And they now found a criterion what a game is - if it is mentioned in the giant bomb database. I never heard of giant bomb before, but maybe it is a good authority for the gaming culture. Twitch also gives an option how to add a game they do not know about - but you seem unhappy with that approach too.

I think, Twitch made reasonable choices for their goals and communicated them clearly. I do not see censorship or that it is reserved only for Blizzard, EA and Steam. As a a customer of Twitch, it is perfectly fine for you to be unhappy with their services and not use them anymore. However, I find it a bit unfair, bashing their decision and bad-mouthing them of censoring in a non-twitch forum - they are hard working people who just want to do the right thing. Please complain to Twitch directly, not here: it is not like Wideland's community can do anything to change Twitch's decision.

fwiw, I think Twitch's choice is reasonable, it seems well communicated and there is a clear path forward: add a Widelands entry to giantbomb.

I have added an entry to Giantbomb, but it has to go through moderation first, because I'm a new user there.

We could pretty up the Twitch entry, but we need an image 600x800, JPG, which is uploaded to imgur.com. Does anybody have an imgur account?

I wanted to make the article on Giant Bomb contain something, but they don't allow copying our game description. It has to be all "original" content. So, I decided not to spend any more time on this, as long as twitch is working.
