Basically the same ideas and principles as in my Ring map, but smaller. I consider this map to be more suitable for typical games.

The map can be found at http://pholia.tdi.informatik.uni-frankfurt.de/~philipp/widelands/

As Ring, the map is based on the following aspects wanted to see in it:

  • Somewhat realistic division of geography - rivers flow glaciers in the mountains through hills and finally plains to the sea.
  • Somewhat realistic distribution of resources: Different resources often found at some distance to each other.
  • Gold is valuable, and thus rare, especially in the early game.
  • There are places of strategic importance, such as river crossings, that military action focuses on.

I have observed a couple of all-AI games on this map in the last few days. As a result I made a few changes (mostly more coal helping the barbarian AI and more rocks helping the Empire AI, Atlanteans are already doing very well).

I updated the map for build 18.
The map has seafearing (and was made from the beginning with efearing in mind), but seafearing is not a dominant feature of the map.

P.S.: So far I also like how the AI behaves on the map in build 18.

long time ago, i posted an idea about creating maps using symmetries. https://wl.widelands.org/forum/topic/1634/

If you want to create a balanced 8-player map, we could use vectors. Example for 8-player map : if the map is of size 320 * 320. we could repeat everything 8 times, by using the vector (40,120) (40 to the right, 120 to the top).
