I'm happy with the decision ... and the ship looks GREAT already!
Sails with partially player color?

Yes, Astuur. The colors on the main sail are divided into quarters to echo the pattern of the empire road flags like this flag. The spinnaker and topsails are solid player color.

With an illustrated "how to" like this, I feel tempted to do some woodworks for real!
Great sequence, indeed.

Now can I hear some ideas for a port building? I'm thinking perhaps something on stilts.

Not an idea only for the Empire port building, but more a general brainstorming:

In Settlers 2 the port were from size and pomposity between headquarters and warehouses. Further a lighthouse were part of the the port building.

Of course I normally point out, that Widelands is not Settlers 2 face-wink.png , however those two ideas are really nice, would show the high buildcosts for a port and the lighthouse as typical seafaring building is an eyecatcher that eases finding the port on the map in game. So I would vote to go a similiar way.

I think in case of the barbarians the lighthouse could be way more archaic than at the other tribes, like a campfire on a small stone tower on the top of the building or the like. The Empire lighthouse could be a statue of a god/godess on the top of the harbour building holding up a "fire bowl". The atlantean lighthouse could instead hold a big glowing mountain crystal or something similiar

You should also keep in mind, that the port is - like the headquarters - a military building as well, thus it should look a bit more fortiefied than the warehouse... face-smile.png

... well just brainstorming - hope you like some of the ideas

Cheers Peter

I fully support Peter's ideas, but we may need to postpone the final design for later.

I had a similar idea about a lighthouse independently when I saw Chucks draft on the Atlantean port building.
